- Text of motion
- That the National Executive Council gratefully receives the Report of the Task Force "Towards the Mutual Recognition of Ordained Ministry" and concurs with the request of the Task Force that it be discharged. This Council expresses its deep appreciation for the great amount of work painstakingly pursued by the Task Force over five years.
- The National Executive Council requests the House of Bishops to recognize the present Shared Ministries in the well-understood practice of "licensing" within the context of a liturgical act, to particular ministries in particular places for specific lengths of time. The details mentioned would be the responsibility of the bishop and his counterpart in the United Church, in whose jurisdictions Shared Ministries exist. This procedure would initiate nothing new, but simply bring the present practice into the common discipline and order of the Church.
- In the hope that the Holy Spirit is leading the Churches towards a mutual recognition of ordained ministry, and mindful of our dialogue with Reformed Churches at the international level as well as the theological argreements already attained in the Lima document (Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry) and the ARCIC Final Report, the National Executive Council requests the Inter-Church Relations Committee to invite The United Church of Canada, and other Churches, if possible, to a consultation to discuss together the responses of our respective Churches to the documents named above: the National Executive Council to establish a new Task Force to continue the dialogue between our two Churches on ordained ministry and mutual recognition at a time that seems most appropriate following the above consultation.
