- That General Synod receive the Memorials from the Diocese of Calgary (a) dealing with Church Union, and (b) dealing with relationships with the Church of South India and refers them to the Committee on Christian Unity and the Church Universal. These resolutions are as follows:
- - (a) That this Synod go on record as being most seriously desirous of an immediate resumption of conversations with the United Church of Canada looking toward organic union between the two Churches and that General Synod be memorialized to this effect.
- - (b) Whereas the Lambeth Conference of 1958 reported that seven Churches of the Anglican Communion have taken Synodical action defining their relationship with the Church of South India; and
- - Whereas there is considerable confusion and misunderstanding in the Anglican Church of Canada regarding its relationship to the Church of South India; therefore
- - Be It Resolved that we recognize the necessity for the Anglican Church of Canada similarly to define its relationship to the Church of South India, according to the following principles enunciated by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States, meeting in 1958:
- - 1. We acknowledge the bishops, presbyters, and deacons episcopally consecrated or ordained in the Church of South India as true bishops, priests and deacons in the Church of God.
- - 2. A bishop or episcopally ordained presbyter of the Church of South India, when temporarily within a diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada, may be invited to celebrate the Holy Communion in churches of that diocese in accordance with the Canadian Book of Common Prayer, with the permission of the Bishop, provided that he be willing, while within that diocese, to celebrate in Anglican Churches only.
- - 3. An episcopally ordained deacon of the Church of South India, when temporarily within a diocese of the Anglican Church of Canada, may be invited to assist at services of Holy Communion in churches of that diocese, with permission of the Bishop.
- - 4. Bishops, presbyters, and deacons of the Church of South India may be invited to preach in Canadian churches, with permission of the Bishop of the diocese.
- - 5. The Bishop of a diocese may occasionally authorize the celebration of the Liturgy of the Church of South India in a church within his jurisdiction, for the congregation of that church, by a bishop or episcopally ordained presbyter of the Church of South India.
- - 6. Bishops and priests of The Anglican Church of Canada who visit South India may accept the hospitality of the Church of South India for celebrating Holy Communion within it.
- - 7. Communicant members of the Church of South India, when temporarily within the diocese of The Anglican Church of Canada, may receive Holy Communion in Anglican churches if they have been episcopally confirmed. Members of the Church of South India who desire to become regular communicants of The Anglican Church of Canada shall be required to conform to the regular discipline of that Church.
- - 8. Members of The Anglican Church of Canada who visit the Church of South India may accept the hospitality of that church for receiving Holy Communion and other sacramental ministrations, at the hands of its bishops and episcopally ordained presbyters.
