Text of motion
Whereas this Upper House has received a statement from the House of Bishops regarding the use of versions of Holy Scripture in public worship, this House requests the Lower House to form with us a joint committee to discuss this subject and the following Memorial from the Diocese of British Columbia:
"This Synod believes that it is desirable that the Epistle and Gospel in the service of Holy Communion should be read from a modern translation of the Holy Bible, and formally requests the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada to permit the use of equivalent passages from a modern translation as an alternative to those printed in the presently authorized Book of Common Prayer."
and to suggest to Synod appropriate action, and that the members of the Upper House be the Bishops of Montreal and Newfoundland.
That the Lower House concurs. CARRIED Message L-13.
