- Text of motion
- Whereas this Upper House has received a statement from the House of Bishops regarding the use of versions of Holy Scripture in public worship, this House requests the Lower House to form with us a joint committee to discuss this subject and the following Memorial from the Diocese of British Columbia:
- "This Synod believes that it is desirable that the Epistle and Gospel in the service of Holy Communion should be read from a modern translation of the Holy Bible, and formally requests the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada to permit the use of equivalent passages from a modern translation as an alternative to those printed in the presently authorized Book of Common Prayer."
- and to suggest to Synod appropriate action, and that the members of the Upper House be the Bishops of Montreal and Newfoundland.
- That the Lower House concurs. CARRIED Message L-13.
