- Mathilda Wilkings worked at various residential schools as a laundry or housekeeping matron, including St. John's Indian Residential School, Chapleau, Ont. (1923-1924); St. Cyprian's Indian Residential School, Peigan Reserve (Brocket, Alta.) (1925-1926); and Gordon's Indian Residential School, Gordon's Reserve (Punnichy, Sask.) (1926-1927). She appears to have either visited or collected photos of other residenital schools as well, such as Hay River and Sioux Lookout.

- Fonds consists of a photo album containing 207 images created or collected by Mathilda Wilkings while she worked in residential schools. The album is entitled, Snap Shot Album.
