- Marjorie Agnes Powles (née Watson) (1914-2016 ) studied at the University of Manitoba and Wesley College (now the University of Winnipeg), where she received a B.A., English in 1934. Marjorie was active in the Student Christian Movement and in 1942, moved to Toronto and attended Covenant College (the United Church training college, now part of the Centre for Christian Studies), and Emmanuel College. After graduation, she served as SCM Secretary at McGill University, Montreal (1943-1946), while continuing to take theology courses at Divinity Hall. In 1946, she married the Anglican priest Cyril Hamilton Powles and went to Japan with him as a missionary with the M.S.C.C.
- Scope and Content
- Fonds consists of a typescript copy of a paper prepared for a class presentation entitled "Women in Anglicanism" (1982), and a copy of the "Bulletin and Newsletter of the Society of the Catholic Commonwealth" which is an essay written by Marjorie Powles entitled "Women too have vocation", concerning sexual love and Christian theology (vol. 1, Dec. 1953, no. 3).
