Notes
"[By] Philip Potter".
"For several years friends and colleagues have vainly been trying to persuade me to publish my writings and speeches, or more ambitiously to write books on subjects which have been at the heart of my ministry. .... Now, in my sixtieth year, some of my friends and colleagues have decided to take the matter in hand. Thanks to the efforts of my deceased wife Doreen and of my former assistant Machteld van Vredenburch in collecting my speeches and writings, and of Ans van der Bent, the librarian of the World Council of Churches, in bringing all this material together, an attempt has been made to select a number of them for publication. By a happy circumstance Marc Reuver, until recently director of IDOC (the International Documentation Service based in Rome), has taken up residence in Geneva and agreed to undertake this almost impossible task. .... All the material in this book has its origin in my work with the World Council of Churches since 1967, first as director of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism and later as General Secretary. .... Here I would like to indicate two threads which have been used to weave my convictions together. First, the Bible has played a central role in my life and thought. .... Second, as a Caribbean person containing in myself many cultures, I am fascinated by the call to dialogue, the encounter of life with life, and especially the dialogue of cultures". -- Preface, p. [vii]-ix.
Contents: Preface dated Geneva, July 1981 -- Seeking a Saviour -- Turning to freedom and fullness -- The call to be advocates -- Unity in covenant through the power of love -- Toward an ecumenical life-style -- Working together for justice -- A worldwide fellowship -- A growing community of faith.
