"This book offers a continuation of a story begun by the late Geoffrey Hunt: 'About the New English Bible' (Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press, 1970). In fact it has to cover some of the same ground, for the history of The New English Bible is the first part of the history of The Revised English Bible. .... Its purpose is to provide some account of the background for those who are interested in knowing a little more about the version and the people who prepared it, as well as to record a factual outline of the work as a modest contribution to the history of Bible publishing. The writer has been privileged to be entrusted by the University Presses with the editorial administration and coordination of the project throughout the major part of the revision, and also, from 1983 to 1989, to have acted as secretary to the supervising Joint Committee of the Churches". -- Preface.
