- "The Week of Prayer is observed around the world each year, usually between January 18 and 25, the feasts of Saints Peter and Paul. .... Beginning in 1908, the Octave of Christian Unity was commemorated by the Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor in Garrison, New York. Since 1948, the World Council of Churches has published an annual prayer service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Since 1968, the Canadian Council of Churches has published its own annual Week of Prayer service. .... The present selection includes examples of all these types of prayers, liturgies and reflections. It is intended first of all as a pastoral resource to which pastors and liturgical convenors can turn in planning ecumenical services or events. .... We have also included prayers and reflections that stand out as particularly beautiful or interesting, or historically relevant. .... We believe this anthology will also be of great value to the church historian and to the theological student, especially since the ecumenical movement has been such a strong element of both church life and Canadian society over the decades. We were unable to locate texts for every one of the hundred years. We are also certain there are more texts of Canadian and regional origin than we were able to find. Nevertheless, we have made a solid beginning. If any reader has, or can find, additional texts to help complete these archives, the Canadian Council of Churches would be happy to hear about them". -- Intro.
