"In this present collection, we have brought together many of the new pieces composed since the publication in 1981 of the first volume of 'Music from Taize'. The essential remains the same: the forms of the songs, their spirit and function. You can find a commentary in the various introductions and performance notes of the first collection . Nonetheless, there are several evolutions to be noted which have come from the wide use of these kinds of songs at Taize, and also outside Taize, in many different countries. Latin continues to be used here with the conditions and for the reasons already mentioned ... whether it be alone or in combination with English .... A very large number of pieces in English can thus be found in this second volume (see classification in the Liturgical and thematic Index p. 80). Several English-speaking Brothers, American, Canadian, and British, have participated in the choosing and adapting of the texts. We owe however particular thanks to Robert J. Batastini who worked in collaboration for several days, at Taize, with Jacques Berthier and myself. His suggestions for texts and his advice on rhythmic accents made it possible to follow all the more closely the unique aspects of the English language". -- Volume II [Foreword].
