- Notes
- This book "is a faithful and archival documentation of the localization of Saint Kateri's cult in the Roman Catholic Church across points within the United States, and, simultaneously, in the words of one contributor, Sister Kateri Mitchell of the Sisters of Saint Anne, of the 'gift' of Saint Kateri to 'all Indian people' (61)". "Perhaps the most striking feature of this book, the highlighting of which is not intended as a criticism of any of the work's content, organization or purpose, all of which seem thoughtfully accomplished and plainly significant, is precisely the intense localization of the cult it documents". "Kateri is documented in 'Native Footsteps' as a character almost entirely divorced from both her Canadian identity as well as her Mohawk one".
