- Notes
- Author "is a parishioner at St. Matthew's parish, Hampstead, in the diocese of Montreal. She left Canada Jan. 5th, 2006, to teach English at St. Thomas' College in Gurutalawa in the diocese of Colombo, Church of Ceylon".
- The author describes a visit to the Victoria Dam built by British engineers from 1980-1984. "This hydro-electric project provides badly needed electric power up in the middle of the island. It is heavily guarded. Water and electricity are very precious commodities in Third World countries". She also describes the celebrations for the Buddhist New Year and her attendance at an ecumenical service at the cathedral in Colombo where a "choir of 300 voices from six schools as well as an orchestra gave the concert to a packed house. The students were Buddhist, Roman Catholic, Methodist, Pentecostal and Anglican."
