Notes
Anne Coons is a Volunteer in Mission from the diocese of Ontario serving with the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil in Porto Alegre, Brazil. She describes the many challenges to children and youth in Brazil, including infant mortality, violence and murder, poverty and unemployment, child prostitution and drugs. "People responsible for programs for youth believe that giving young people the possibility of getting employed helps them to move away from the influence of gangs and the trafficking in the shanty towns. But there is a lot more to do in order to reach many more young people and to overcome the social tensions that create violence."
