- Notes
- Jacob has "produced a fine account of the development of the institutions of the Anglican Communion, from the Reformation to the mid-1960s. His narrative, based on secondary sources, flows clearly and strongly and holds our interest". "The author's statement that there is stilll no other work on the expansion of Anglicanism is provocative. Jacob tells us that he finished his work in 1996. W. Sach's `The Transformation of Anglicanism from State Church to Global Communion' was published in 1993 by Cambridge University Press and is actually included in Jacob's bibliography. It covers much the same ground, though with less detail for the early period and more emphasis on theological ideas and interpretation. Fortunately neither renders the other superfluous".
