Notes
After 1815, large numbers of Britons began to live in France. Among this number were many clergy, none of whom were licensed or subject to ecclesiastical discipline. In 1825, Matthew Luscombe, a Church of England cleric, was "consecrated in Stirling, to be Missionary Bishop in Europe of the Scottish Episcopal Church". In 1834 he built St. Michael's Church in the Rue d'Aguesseau, the first Anglican church to be built in France.
