The Name of the Church

Text of motion: "That Canon I (Name of the Church) Handbook p. 59, be repealed and the following be substituted: 'Canon I (Name of the Church) "The Church hitherto known as 'The Church of England in Canada' shall in future be styled 'The Anglican Church of Canada'."; Moved in amendment by the Bishop of Nova Scotia, seconded by the Bishop of Montreal, "That the name of the Church by changed to 'The Episcopal Church of Canada'.; The amendment was put to the vote of the Lower House and defeated.; The motion was put to the vote and carried -- in the Lower House (174 for; 40 against); -- in the Upper House (23 for; 4 against).
