- That this General Synod:
- 1. Affirm the rights of migrant workers in Canada and around the world and condemn their inhuman and degrading treatment;
- 2. Call on the Government of Canada to ratify or accede to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families as a matter of priority;
- 3. Call on the Government of Canada to institute and/or revise legislation in order to ensure fair treatment of and safe working conditions for migrant workers, eliminate the elements that discriminate against them, improve family rights for migrant workers, especially for immediate family members, to enable family visits or reunions and to ensure that governments at the provincial levels, where responsibility for these areas of rights may be devolved, bring their laws into conformity with national labour standards and provisions of international covenants; and,
- 4. Encourage dioceses to set aside December 18, International Migrants' Day, as a day to highlight migrants' concerns, and where appropriate, lobby provincial governments to conform with national labour standards and provisions of international covenants. CARRIED WITHOUT DEBATE Act 73.
