- That the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada express its dissatisfaction and disappointment with the continuing delay in the resolution of residential schools issues and directs its negotiation team to cease negotiations with the Federal Government as of September 15, 2001 unless or until a written agreement in principle is reached with the government that satisfactorily addresses at least the following concerns:
- - Compensation for individuals harmed in residential schools
- - Development of an alternative redress model
- - Identification of legally liable church organizations
- - The financial commitment from legally liable church organizations
- - Support from church organizations not legally liable
- - Recognition of past, continuing, and future contributions to aboriginal programs
- - Indemnity for all current and future claims, including cultural claims
- - Payment of legal costs of church organizations that remain in legal proceedings
- Amendment
- The mover and seconder agreed to replace the words "unless or until a written agreement in principle is reached with the government" with "unless significant progress has been made toward an agreement" in the first sentence of the resolution.
