- The Bishop of Moosonee, chairman of the Committee, reported on a meeting held in the Diocese of Calgary for those bishops with Indian and Eskimo work in their dioceses. The Committee met from Dec. 15th., to 17th., 1970. Bishop Watton asked for the approval of the House of the Terms of Reference for, and the Financing of, this committee. As no copies of these were available for individual members it was:-

- That we receive the Report of the House of Bishops Committee on Native Canadians and further discussion be postponed pending copies of:
- (i) Ther Terms of Reference and Financing;
- (ii) The Memorial to the P.W.R. and D. Fund Committee. CARRIED
- Notes
- This further discussion was held on Saturday, January 23rd., and the Bishop of Moosonee presented the Terms of Reference.
- (i) To keep under review the general native situation and initiate action where considered necessary.
- (ii) To maintain liason with task forces within the Church in relation to native work.
- (ii) To maintain close liaison with Federal and Provincial Government Indian departments and with national native organizations.
- (iv) To maintain liaison at ecumenical levels where applicable.
- (v) To study and make recommendations concerning briefs, proposals and requests brought to the attention of the Church in regard to Native matters.
- Membership of the Committee.
- The Bishops of Quebec; Moosonee; Keewatin; Rupert's Land; Brandon; Qu'Appelle; Saskatchewan; Calgary; Caledonia; Yukon; the Arctic; Mackenzie.
- Membershiop of the Executive.
- Bishops of the Committee who are also members of the National Executive Council plus the Chairman (Watton) and the Secretary (Cook).
- Meetings.
- The whole Committee to meet once a year for a period of three days. The Executive to meet during the period of the N.E.C. meetings.
- Finances.
- a) In the event the Chairman and/or Secretary are not members of the N.E.C., the General Treasurer be asked to provide funds.
- b) A Budget of about $4,000 will be required for the annual meeting of the whole Committee.
