- Some particulars of the discussion which was continued from the previous session are as follows:--
- Bishop Maguire asked for more detailed emphasis on a local focus;
- Bishop Robinson emphasized the timeliness of the spiritual and intellectual emphasis;
- Bishop Sperry expressed concern about native participation in the proposed conference and suggested that possibly another conference for native peoples would be necessary;
- Archbishop Davis raised the question of an Ecumenical dimension;
- Bishop Valentine raised the question of budget provision;
- The Primate emphasized that the Committee is seeking for (a) general approval and (b) a genuine level of commitment on the part of the Bishops;
- Bishop Bothwell asked for a clearer picture concerning the local follow-up and the conference itself as well as more precision about its purpose;
- Bishop Valentine mentioned motivation - the setting free of movements in the Church;
- Bishop Somerville gave a brief description of an Anglican in the 70's as being low key, middle class and intellectual;
- Archbishop Wright emphasized the spirit of questing, personal devotional growth and the relevance of the Church to society;
- Archbishop Davis expressed the hope that the significance of our faith would be proclaimed in a statement of purpose.
- Text of motion
- "That the House of Bishops has studied the report of the Task Force on Conference on Theological Perspectives which will be presented at the next meeting of the National Executive Council and pledges support individually and corporately to its implementation and follow up if approved by National Executive Council." CARRIED
