- [Memorial]
- Our Anglican Communion has been deeply saddened by the sudden deaths of two Bishops.
- The Right Reverend John Ogle Anderson, after five years as Suffragan to the Archbishop of Rupert's Land and two years as Bishop Co-adjutor, was elected as Bishop of British Columbia in early 1969.
- Bishop Anderson was ordained in 1936 and from 1942-45 served with distinction as a Chaplain in the Canadian Army in many areas and was awarded the Military Cross. In recognition of his leadership and concern for those whom he had served in the Armed Forces, he was made Dominion President of the Royal Canadian Legion from 1954-56.
- Continuing this association he was appointed Bishop Ordinary to the Forces, a position he held at the time of his death on November 21, 1969.
- To his family, the deepest sympathy of the National Executive Council is extended.
- The Right Reverend K.C. Evans was born of English Missionary parents in Szechuan Province in China where he received his early education. He was a graduate in Theology of Wycliffe College, Toronto and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy of the University of Toronto. In 1932-33 he served as a Thayer Fellow at the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem. Ordained in 1931 in the Diocese of Toronto, he served with academic distinction for many years in the field of Oriental languages and as Dean of Divinity at Trinity College, Toronto until his appointment in 1944 as Dean of Montreal and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal. As Dean of Montreal, his scholarship was quickly recognized by the academic community in the City and he exercised a great influence and ministry among the student life.
- In 1952 he was elected Bishop of Ontario.
- Bishop Evans' scholarship was early recognized and he gave freely of his gifts to the Church at all levels of its life and not the least to the work of the General Synod. He made a valued contribution to the work of the Constitution and Canons Committee of General Synod, serving as its Chairman for several years.
