- Prologue
- As a result of considerable discussion of the items under "Elections" on p.2 of the Report, the following motion was presented.
- Text of motion
- That the NEC move into the "Committee of the Whole" for a period of not more than half an hour in order to obtain general reactions to the contents of p.2 of the Long Range Planning Committee's report under the heading "Elections." CARRIED
- Notes
- The general reactions were as follows:
- 1. The Pensions Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Churchman should be deleted from para.1.
- 2. The number of National Executive Council members on Committees should not be confined to three in para.1.
- 3. The caucusing of twelve members during General Synod would be extremely difficult.
- 4. More time is needed to consider what is more or less a "rehash" of the "Netten" report.
- 5. It was strongly recommended that the Long Range Planning Committee membership should not be reduced.
- 6. The importance of regional representation was stressed.
- 7. There should be some provision for the Primate to name members of Committees following appointments by General Synod and the National Executive Council.
- 8. The membership of the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund Committee should be reviewed in the same manner.
- 9. In response to a request for clarification of para.5, it was stated that this provides for a group that can be called together quickly and easily in order to consult with national staff, and can guide and assist the full Committee when it meets.
- 10. There is need to separate guidelines and details.
- 11. It was considered restrictive for the National Treasurer of the ACW and the Chairman of the Pensions Committee to be two of the six members at large of the Administration and Finance Committee. It was noted that the membership of the ACW Treasurer will terminate by the end of 1973 at the time of Integration.
- 12. The importance of liaison between all Committees was stressed.
- 13. The Pensions Committee requires larger number of specialists with necessary expertise in order to receive the benefit of varying points of view.
- 14. Reference should be included regarding the future relationship of the Church's Committee work with the General Commission on Church Union and its Special Commissions and/or their successors.
