- Prologue
- The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Rev. B. Barrett. Associated with the Chairman at the reporting table were Mrs. J.H. Childs, Mrs. J.R. Maybee, Rev. J.A. McCullum, Ven. A. Cuthand and Rev. W. Lowe. Following a general discussion of the work of the Committee and its plans the following motion was presented:
- Moved by Childs, seconded by McCullum,
- "That this NEC authorizes the Long Range Planning Committee to arrange for a national conference in November 1974 to achieve the following objectives:
- To have national program directions for the years 1976, 77, 78 developed through a process which recognizes the concerns of overseas churches, General Synod, Canadian dioceses, other denominations and government agencies."
- In speaking to the motion it was pointed out that it was the Long Range Planning suggestion that the conference would replace the November 1974 meeting of NEC. Bishop Goodman and Mr. W.R. Shepherd recommended that provision be made in the time schedule of the conference to allow for separate meetings of NEC, should this prove to be necessary. Following further debate the following action was taken.
- Text of motion
- That this NEC agree in principle to the holding of a Planning Conference in November '74, and ask the Long Range Planning Committee to report to the February, 1974 meeting of the National Executive Council, further details as to cost and to opportunities for other Committee meetings in November 1974, for confirmation or otherwise.
