Memorial [from the Diocese of Ottawa]

Text of motion: That we receive the Memorial from the Diocese of Ottawa re Tax on Building Supplies, viz.: That we memorialize the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada, meeting in August 1965, of the action of the Synod of the Diocese of Ottawa of 1965 relating to the following resolution adopted by the same Synod re Federal sales tax assessments: "Whereas the 11% federal sales tax assessment applies to building supplies for church buildings, and whereas this is a costly item which could delay or prevent the completion of new church buildings of all denominations throughout Canada, and whereas the Federal Government has exempted Canadian Universities from this 11% sales tax assessment, be it therefore resolved that the Diocese of Ottawa at this annual meeting of Synod urges the Government of Canada to extend the exemption of the federal sales tax to the building supplies used in erecting church buildings."
