That the Memorial of the Diocese of Saskatoon be referred to the Committee on Public Worship.
The Memorial reads as follows:
"That the General Synod authorize the Committee on the Revision of the Prayer Book to begin work on a Prayer Book relevant to the urgent times in which we and all men live today;
And that after a reasonable period of time, during which selected parishes in every Canadian diocese will have had ample opportunity to test and evaluate various forms of Service provided through the above named committee, the same Committee shall report back to General Synod with a Draft Prayer Book based upon such evaluation, and which it believes best represents the mind of the Church in relation to the contemporary world.
In undertaking this work the Committee on the Revision of the Prayer Book should consider the following recommendations:
1. That there be a serious re-assessment of the language and theological expression of the present Prayer Book in relation to the problems of contemporary life.
2. That due recognition of the role of the laity in the worship of the Church, with provision for clearly worded rubrics to support and encourage their more active participation and leadership in the worship of the Anglican Church of Canada.
3. That good contemporary English be used in all orders of Service in a revised Prayer Book with special attention to Holy Baptism, Holy Communion, and the Epistles and Gospels appointed for the Holy Communion throughout the Christian Year.
4. That optional provision by rubrics for extempore prayer or biddings by clergy and laity following the third collect in Morning and Evening Prayer and in the Holy Communion during the biddings and Prayer of Intercession. CARRIED in both Houses.
