Lambeth Conference - 1988 - General Synod Archives

Text of motion: "Having been informed that the next Lambeth Conference will be held from July 16th to August 7th, 1988, as a residential conference at the University of Kent at Canterbury, and that each Bishop or Diocese will be responsible for:; (a) the travelling expenses to and from Canterbury; (b) a contribution towards the cost of food and lodging; and that Canada will be asked to accept a share of the administrative costs of the Conference and to make a contribution to the travel pool for Bishops from Dioceses who are unable to meet the costs:; This House of Bishops agrees that each Diocese should be responsible for the expenses of its Bishop or Bishops and also for an appropriate portion of the Canadian share of the administration assessment, and contribution to the travel pool.; Further, that it be agreed that no Diocesan Bishop should be prevented from attending for financial reasons and that if any Diocese is not able to make the necessary provisions, the Primate should be notified so that necessary assistance can be provided. Notes: It was agreed that a letter should go from the Primate to all the Dioceses urging that provision be made at the diocesan level to enable the Bishops' wives to attend the Lambeth Conference.; The Primate noted that attendance of Suffragan Bishops at the Lambeth Conference is now being studied.
