Hartwell; That this National Executive Council, to implement Act 104 of General Synod 1992 (Common Security and the Federal Budget), communicate to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence:; a) its support for increased emphasis on the peacekeeping tradition of the Canadian Forces;; b) its support of the indefinite deferral of the purchase of nuclear powered submarines;; c) its distress at the decision to proceed with the purchase of 50 EH-101 helicopters;; d) its support of an early cancellation of this purchase in favour of a more modest acquisition of standard model helicopters more suited to a peacekeeping role.; Motion to refer; Moved by: Dean R. Text of motion: That this National Executive Council, to implement Act 104 of General Synod 1992 (Common Security and the Federal Budget), communicate to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence:; a) its support for increased emphasis on the peacekeeping tradition of the Canadian Forces in lieu of the treaty obligations to NATO and NORAD;; b) its support of the indefinite deferral of the purchase of nuclear powered submarines;; c) its distress at the decision to proceed with the purchase of 50 EH-101 helicopters; and; d) its support of an early cancellation of this purchase in favour of the acquisition of less expensive helicopters.
