- Prologue
- Bishop Curtis, assisted by Mr. Steven [sic i.e. Stephen] Hopkins and Mrs. Ann Elliott, presented the Report on the Lay Ministry Consultation held in Toronto. Mrs. Elliott reported that amongst the subjects discussed were the sharing of knowledge regarding lay ministries, organization of professional lay workers and the regularizing of lay ministries within the Church.
- Mr. Hopkins reviewed the resolutions which emerged from the Consultation and distributed copies, for information. The resolutions concerned Christian ministry, lay ministry networks, fair employment practices and a Canon or Resolution on lay ministry.
- Text of motion
- That we, the House, accept responsibility for helping clergy and lay people in our Dioceses to continue to wrestle with the concept of baptismal ministry and its implications for our practice of ministry (as outlined in the General Synod, 1983, Statement, "Towards a Theology of Christian Ministry"), a ministry flowing from our baptism and belonging to the whole people of God.
