- "Fifteen years ago -- in April 1972 -- it was in Crete that the 'World Collaboration Committee of Academies, Laity Centres and Movements for Social Concerns' was born. This event was the result of the first World Consultation for Centres, to which participants came from 25 countries in six continents. The report of this consultation has been published by the WCC under the title 'The New Fishermen'. It is to them this introduction is dedicated and it is for them this booklet is meant: those women and men, colleagues and friends, toiling and labouring in centres all over the globe. But it is also addressed to those responsible in their churches for adult education and ecumenical learning, which in the early years of the ecumenical movement was called 'Lay Training'. .... This booklet came out of the most recent event which the centres organized jointly, under the leadership of Jose Leite from the Ecumenical Centre in Portugal and Tosh Arai from the WCC sub-unit on Renewal and Congregational Life. The event was a 'Course for Leadership in Lay Training' (CLLT), held in February 1985 in Tanzania. It belonged to the tradition of common events in the ecumenical pilgrimage of the centres around the globe. The actual report of this course has been published by the WCC under the title 'The World has Human Faces'." -- p. 1.
