- "Jacques Berthier, composer and organist at St. Ignatius Church, Paris, one of the European centers of liturgical renewal, already, contributed to the Taize repertoire in the fifties. Since 1975 he has been engaged in developing a new repertoire in close collaboration with Brother Roger, one of the members of the first Taize generation to whom the Prior, Brother Roger, confided the task of leading the music for the young people. All the pieces in this collection have been published by Les Presses de Taize in four successive booklets: 1. Jubilate Deo (1976); 2. Chanter le Christ (1978); 3. Chanter l'Esprit (1978); 4. Laudate Dominum (1980). This American edition, under the general title 'Music from Taize'. contains the material from the above four book and has been substantially supplemented with new contributions by Jacques Berthier .... In this edition, a completely new format and order has been adopted, with the help of Brother Robert, who has also written new introductions and provided practical guidelines for the performance of the music. In this present volume all vocal parts for the people, choir and soloists are given in four groupings, each corresponding to a particular musical form. Each section is arranged in alphabetical order .... The keyboard (organ or piano) and guitar parts are included in the Vocal Edition and are also contained in the Instrumental Edition which also includes parts for miscellaneous string, wind and percussion instruments." -- Publisher's Preface.
