"The meeting of the Standing Commission in July 1986 at Potsdam, German Democratic Republic, was concerned with the progress and future development of the programme, it had to face some important decisions and it was part of the joint meeting of Commissions and Working Groups of Programme Unit I of the World Council of Churches. This context provided highly valuable and stimulating encounters across sub-unit lines and helped to further develop perspectives and plans for cooperation. But there was also rather limited time available for the extensive work and responsibility of the Standing Commission which had to concentrate its deliberations on the most important aspects of the present Faith and Order programme". -- Preface.
