- Notes
- Author talks about the practice of feeding birds in the winter and participating in Christmas bird counts. "Such activities enhance our celebration of Christmas and bring a feeling of the presence and power of the Creator. The tradition of feeding birds at Christmas goes back at least to the 13th century. St. Francis of Assisi is well known for his preaching to the birds and calling them sisters and brothers. He also initiated the feeding of birds at Christmas." Author also describes the spiritual relationship felt by aboriginal peoples with their environment and particularly mentions the plans to build an irrigation dam which will flood 24 kilometres of the Oldman River Valley, home to the Peigan nation.
