- Notes
- "My observation has been that, after years now of use in our parish, the Book of Alternative Services still finds the laity bewildered and lagging with the new prayers but touchingly cheered, relieved and in full voice when we turn to the old orders of service". "Our church would have been far better served had their been a fresh and vigorous revision and augmentation of the Book of Common Prayer. Had that been done, we would have been spared the many pages of flat, pedestrian prayer which characterize the new book". "If you doubt my judgment, just turn to the Psalter in the BAS and consider your favourites. Take any one. Come to think of it, take them all. I do not want them. The Coverdale Psalter of the Book of Common Prayer as edited by no less than T.S. Eliot, God rest his soul, was good enough. It was quite good enough".
