- Notes
- "In your editorial 'Walk with the animals' and the article 'Accord animals dignity' (November [1988] Churchman) you raise a major moral issue of our times. Human societies, acting in their own self interest, have never accorded the other creatures of God's world the respect to which they are entitled. Now in the late 20th century, the ways in which we wield our power to exploit animals result in unnecessary suffering". "One of the many Anglicans actively involved in this work is theologian Andrew Linzey, chaplain and senior director of studies at the Centre for Study of Theology, University of Essex. His recent book ''Christianity and the Rights of Animals' (Crossroad, New York) challenges existing attitudes and suggests more appropriate Christian behavior. To quote: 'The challenge of the doctrine of God, the free, generous creator, is that we have to value what he values and respect what he has allowed into being'".
