- Notes
- Two October 2014 "letters to the editor got me thinking ... Both seem to operate on the supposition that Christian faith is 'optional extra' to the 'reality' of politics and economics. This is a sterile view of reality. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not practical and it is not divisible. It is the way of the cross, a way of self-emptying love for all people, created in God's image and likeness. It is so tempting to set idols in the name of practicality and utility. Capitalism, socialism, democracy and even justice can all become idols when they become an end in themselves. Christ directs us to sell what we have, give to the poor and follow him, which leads to the cross and resurrection. We need to journey together and encourage one another on this difficult road to transformation".
