- Part of: Advertising Supplement: Focus on Education. "At present, some 30 students from Newfoundland to British Columbia are completing half of the required credits, including supervised placements, from the comfort of their province [as part of the Summer Distance Master of Divinity (MDiv) program at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax]. Then they travel to AST each summer to complete the other half of their credits in just six weeks. 'It's an intense experience with a really vibrant summer school community', says Dean David MacLachlan. The program was initially developed 10 years ago to work within the polity of the United Church of Canada, explains Dr. Laurence DeWolfe, director of the program. 'Now we are working on ways to adapt the program to serve Anglicans'. Since the program is field-based, with students spending most of the five years in a supervised ministry placement, the program will need to be further developed on a diocese by diocese basis, he says. At present, AST is working with the diocese of Fredericton to develop a model". Article also includes "Fast facts" about Atlantic School of Theology.
