- Notes
- "'The average life of a hymnal', states the preface to the 'Hymn Book' (1938), 'appears to be twenty-five years'. It's time for the editors of 'Common Praise' (2000) to restore to use many of the 'old' hymns that offend their theologies, but which minister to many. 'Onward, Christian Soldiers', on the endangered list because of its militariness, was written for a children's Whitsunday procession". [Text of entire article.]
