- Notes
- Ken and Jeannette Nevin, Volunteers in Mission from the Diocese of Kootenay, write about conditions in Montevideo, Uruguay. A cold, damp winter is now past. "The muggings and robberies are as numerous this year as last year, but violence has escalated. More people are knifed or shot this year. .... Since the Buenos Aires bombing of the Jewish Centre, workmen have been installing a series of concrete pillars on the sidewalk that will prevent a care driving into the building loaded with explosives". "Much as we love the people that we work with and the poor that we feed, it will be a relief to go home at the end of the mission. Another factor is our health problem. The constant humidity of this seaside city has aggravated our arthritis, making joints extremely painful".
