- Notes
- "As its title suggests, this book is a tribute to Sidney Mead and his ground-breaking studies of the history of American Christianity, among them 'The Lively Experiment'" (p. 161). "All of the essays provide interesting perspectives on Mead's life and work, but a few stand out. Coming from one who studied with him, Martin Marty's presentation of Mead in 'The Historian as Teacher' is a special treat" (p. 161). "Of the various essays exploring Mead's work on the ideals of the American republic, [Robert T.] Handy's fine discussion of 'The "Lively Experiment" in Canada' deserves special note" (p. 161-162)".
