In 1981 a Hui (consultation) called by the Aotearoa Council at Tauranga resulted in the election of Archdeacon Whakahuihui Vercoe as fourth Bishop of Aotearoa.; Author is an Anglican priest and "member of the Ngati Porou Tribe".
