- Notes
- In spring of this year [2002] 14 liturgical leaders gathered at Christ Church, Deer Park, in Toronto. "They responded to an invitation from Canon John Erb of the Anglican Foundation to reflect and act on the issue of inculturation -- finding new ways to celebrate our liturgy in the context of our contemporary life. This is all possible due to a generous grant given by Rev. Graham Cotter towards the arts in liturgy. The gathering focussed initially on the use of jazz in some communities, especially around celebrations of 'jazz vespers'. As we began to explore, we concluded that there needed to be North American rooted liturgical music expression. This in no way is meant to 'replace' what we have celebrated with in our very rich treasury of music and poetry. However, it is important, we feel, to find melodies, rhythms and words that reflect the world in which the Gospel has to take flesh today."
