- Notes
- The author, with his wife Norma and son Richard, are Volunteers in Mission from the diocese of Nova Scotia in Boroka, Papua New Guinea. Michael Collier is a priest who has had a number of different experiences including "being interviewed by an envoy of the Vatican last year [1995] and writing a speech for Bishop Isaac (Gadebo) to welcome the Secretary General of the WCC (World Council of Churches) last week". He comments on the strong ecumenical co-operation between Anglicans and Roman Catholics, noting that the newly elected Anglican Bishop of New Guinea Islands, Michael Hough, "is a former Roman priest and Franciscan". He also describes the climate, insect/wildlife/reptile situation and security/personal safety concern caused by "rascals" i.e. criminals.
