- Photo with caption. "New Zealand's new Governor General, Sir Michael Hardie Boys, is an Anglican. The new Governor General is keen to draw on his Christian faith and church links in his new job. A former Court of Appeals judge, Sir Michael took up his new position in March [1996]. He is also Honorary Vice President of the Boys' Brigade and is a strong supporter of the social service work done by churches. He was saddened by the recent fire which destroyed the historic Otaki church in Rangiateai [known as the Maori Cathedral], which his wife's ancestor, Bishop Hadfield, was instrumental in building with Te Rauparaha, and has offered his help in the rebuilding of the church".
