- Notes
- The authors describe the positive impact on Japanese society of the Asian Rural Institute (ARI). "ARI has an impact on Japanese society through transient columns of people who come here to work -- staffers, volunteers, and working visitors. These are usually young people, full of idealism, who work hard, learn about organic farming and sustainable living, and are then absorbed into the main society, where they serve as ambassadors for the ARI way of life." Many students especially from universities also visit. The participants at the Institute described their work and challenges as Community Organizers using skits and dramas.
- The authors are Volunteers in Mission from the diocese of Ottawa posted in Nishinasuno Japan, at the Asian Rural Institute, which is dedicated to training rural leaders from underdeveloped regions of Asia.
