- Missions to Seamen, an Anglican society founded in 1856, became "The Mission to Seafarers" at a service of blessing and rededication on 4 April 2000 at Westminster Abbey. "The new name reflects the fact that there is only one mission -- God's mission -- and that the society serves seafarers of all nationalities and faiths, both men and women. It will more accurately convey the society's inclusive, all-embracing work among the world's 1.2 million seafarers".
