- After gaining a degree in industrial design, the author went to Thailand to teach for a year on a CMS Overseas Experience Placement. Grimsley taught at the Anglican-run Nohbo Academy.
- The placement was arranged by Canon Monty Morris, Vicar of Christ Church, Bangkok, and Rural Dean of Thailand and Laos in the Diocese of Singapore.
