- Dean Wall introduced Mr. John Paul Copeland, President of DataOnTheSpot. Mr. Copeland described why response (DOT) pads are an effective meeting tool in engaging entire audiences. Members participated in a “demo” session. The DOT pad has been approved for use in July 2013 for the General Synod portion of the Joint Assembly.
- Joint Assembly in Ottawa from July 3-7, 2013
- Dean Wall reported in detail under the following headings:
- 1. Theme – “Together for the love of the world”. A logo has been developed.
- 2. Communication – a new website will soon be available– www.jointassembly.ca
- 3. Worship and Local Arrangements – all worship will take place in the Ottawa Convention Centre and liturgies will be creative and innovative. There will be ‘no night off’. A Joint Assembly Banquet will be celebrated on July 6th.
- 4. Administration – a very complex undertaking, which is on schedule and within budget
- 5. Agenda – working through agenda items and requests. We are able to see enough time for the business coming before Synod.
- Text of motion
- 1. That this Council of the General Synod directs the Officers to ensure that there is the time needed on the agenda of the upcoming General Synod session for the Synod members to:
- - a) do the business required of them as a corporation;
- - b) deal properly with the legislative matters (constitutional and canonical motions) coming before them; and
- - c) discuss amongst themselves the future of the Canadian Church, including changes that may be needed to the way it functions to better carry out its Mission.
- 2. That this Council of the General Synod directs the Officers to make any modifications to the agenda or the length of the sessions in Synod that they consider are needed to ensure the proper consideration of the matters coming before the Synod and delegates to the Officers the power needed to do this.
