- That the motion put before the House by Bishop Ingham and Hutchison at the spring 1997 meeting be lifted from the table. CARRIED

- While the House of Bishops, in reissuing and updating the 1979 Guidelines, states its commitment to the principles contained therein, nevertheless the House understands that individual bishops, acting with their diocesan synods, may wish to set these guidelines aside in specific instances and for pastoral reasons, and members of the House agree not to challenge the right of any bishop and/or diocese to do so.
