- (4) Work Amongst Young People
- The Work amongst the Young People of the Church is carried on largely through the Anglican Young People's Association, the recognized official organization of the Church for this group. This organization is an auxiliary to the G.B.R.E., and the Executive Committee of the Dominion Council of the A.Y.P.A. is the Committee directly responsible to the G.B.R.E. and through it, to the General Synod, for the promotion of this work.
- During the past three years very important developments in the work of the A.Y.P.A. have taken place. While the A.Y.P.A. has always been a Dominion Organization in theory, its operations were largely centred in Eastern Canada, and especially in the province of Ontario.
- In 1931, however, a real Dominion Conference was held in the city of Regina, at which representatives from 16 Dioceses were present. At this Conference the first practical steps to make the A.Y.P.A. a real Dominion-wide organization were taken. Growing out of this conference, plans were developed for regional organization, following more or less, at present, the division of the four Ecclesiastical Provinces - the work in these Provinces to be under a Provincial Council elected by representatives from the Branches within the Province at the time of their Annual Conference. These Provincial Councils are, of course, definitely related to the Dominion Council as well as to the various Diocesan Boards of Religious Education within the Province concerned.
- A paragraph to be added re the Conference held in Toronto in 1933.
- Already Councils have been organized in the Provinces of British Columbia and Ontario. The other Provinces will be organizes as soon as circumstances warrant.
- Since this re-organization, the work of the Association has gone forward rapidly, so that it is possible to report Branches in every Diocese, the total number being 850 with a membership of approximately 40,000. During the past year alone, 69 new charters were issued and 23 old branches were revived. It is of interest to note that applications for charters have been received both from England and from the United States.
- This re-organization provides for the holding of a Dominion Conference every two years, the Provincial Conferences being held annually. ADOPTED by both Houses.
- Text of motion
- That this Synod views with satisfaction the policy of organizational development in young people's work, as fostered by the G.B.R.E., through the A.Y.P.A., and heartily commends this organization to the Dioceses as a means for holding the young people of the Church and as a channel for enlisting them in the Church's work. CARRIED in both Houses.
