- That the following resolution be referred to the Program Committee, with the request that the Program Committee does not duplicate the work already being done in this area:
- "Whereas the 1965 General Synod expressed its intention to undertake one or more pilot projects in an attempt to discover more effective ways of working with Indian and partly Indian communities within the context of Community Development philosophy, and,
- Whereas the Report of the Inter-departmental Committee on Indian-Eskimo Affairs to the 1967 General Synod states that there is need for research and planning to form a consistent policy of the Anglican Church of Canada to Indian work;
- Be It Therefore Resolved (1) that this General Synod requests the Long Range Planning Committee, or the appropriate arm of General Synod, to give its full support to and become actively involved in projects enabling Indians to discuss their own proposals for self-determination and which provide discussion between Indians and other Canadians;
- And Further (2) that the Long Range Planning Committee, or the appropriate arm of General Synod prepare a Report to be presented to the next General Synod of the needs, concerns and recommendations expressed in such projects;
- And Further (3) that the National Executive Council be asked to provide $20,000 for each of the two years 1969 and 1970 (that is a total of $40,000) in the budgets of those years to implement the recommendations of the Report." CARRIED
