- Appointment of Rev. Canon John Charles Bothwell, of Hamilton, Ontario as executive director for the Anglican Church of Canada was announced today by the church's National Executive Council. He succeeds the former Canon David Somerville, now Bishop Coadjutor of the diocese of New Westminster, B.C.
- Canon Bothwell, 42, now director of planning and programs for the diocese of Niagara, will assume his new post April 1. He will execute policy decisions and carry forward the church's programs at the national level.
- In addition to his work in the Niagara area, Canon Bothwell has been a diocesan representative to General Synod and the National Executive Council. He is also secretary of the General Synod commission studying theological education which during 1968 visited theological colleges across Canada.
- A native of Toronto, the new executive director of program took his B.A. at the University of Toronto in 1948 and received his theological training at Trinity College. He received his bachelor of divinity degree from General Synod in 1952.
- Following his ordination in Toronto he served on the staff of St. James' Cathedral, Toronto, from 1951 until 1953 and for the next three years was assistant priest at Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver. Returning to the east, he served as rector of St. Aidan's Church, Oakville, Ontario from 1956 until 1960 when he became rector of St. James' Church, Dundas, Ontario. In 1965 he was appointed canon missioner for the diocese of Niagara, later becoming director of planning and programs.
